The F1 In Schools Challenge
This project is all about giving a student the opportunity to design and engineer their own F1 car.
The F1 challenge is a great, fun and exciting project to do with your friends and to make new friends. The experience will give you an idea of what teamwork and all the hard work is put into something you like doing.
The F1 car that is used in the challenge, is basically a small scale model of a F1 car; but slightly different.
The body of the car is made out of balsa wood, and uses a program called 'Catia' to design and create the car. This program is very complex but is an excellent engineering tool.
The car has to follow all the rules and regulations or will either be penalized or disqualified from the competition. There are strict rules to follow when it comes to designing the car, some rules and regulations include the width span of the front and back aerofoil, the volume, length and width of the side pod. They cover it all in the rules and regulations guide.
In the state competition you are required to engineer 2 cars, one for display and the other one they keep for the races.
Some people might think it is easy to design a car, but how easy is it to manufacture a car. There are a lot of steps to complete the actual car. Some steps include sandpapering the car and spray painting. But it’s all in the effort for the F1 project.
Jobs
the car is only one of the elements to this challenge, to enter the competition you have to create a team of 3 - 5 people that you can work cooperatively with each other, and each of the team members have to be in charge of a certain job.
These jobs include:
Team Manager
Portfolio manager
Car Designer
Resource Manager
Manufacturing Engineer
Graphic designer
all of these jobs plays a vital role to be in the F1 challenge competition.
The F1 state competition for W.A is held at the .......this competition brings all the W.A teams together to race and battle it out to enter the national competition in .........
At the end of the day awards are given out in different categories to different teams.
Each team is given a booth to display all their information about the team and to show of the car and all its other cool features. Designing the booth takes a lot of hard work to make all the bits and pieces and filling up all the spaces on the wall to show everything about your team.
The portfolio is all the teams’ information in one A3 booklet, which is required for the competition. The judges will come up to your booth and will judge how well the information written and also how much information is in the portfolio.
Teams also have to prepare a power-point presentation to the judges as required in the competition. In the presentation the teams have to prepare speeches and information about the car, team, character profiles and the jobs they do. The judges judge on how well, clearly and fluent you speak and how much information is given in the speech.
This F1 project was made possible by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Hill and has given the students a chance to engineer a car which is great fun.
If you would like to participate in the F1 in schools challenge contact Mr. Hill in C block in Class C1.
